Smoke Alarm Installs & Testing

Smoke alarms are a legislative requirement in every home. In QLD all smoke alarms must be powered by either 240 volts or a non-removable 10-year lithium battery.

Is your home compliant and up to date with the new QFS legislations?

From 1 January 2022, new and renovated homes, properties being sold and properties being leased are required to install smoke alarms. You must install interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms:

  • In each bedroom
  • In hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the house
  • On each storey of the home
  • All smoke alarms bust be photoelectric ( AS 3786-2014) compliant – not contain an ionisation sensor
  • Al smoke alarms must operate when tested
  • Smoke alarms must be hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery.

From 1 January 2027, this legislation will apply to every dwelling in Queensland. Under Queensland fire safety law, it’s advised that smoke alarms should be tested and cleaned at least once every 12 months to ensure maximum safety. Smoke alarms need to be maintained to ensure they are working correctly. If you’re unsure whether your home or investment property is compliant, book a smoke alarm inspection with Precise Electrical Connections.

What are interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms?

Photoelectric smoke alarms detect physical combustion particles in the air. They are highly effective at responding quickly to dense smoke and smouldering fires. When one smoke alarm detects smoke, they all go off, giving you the best chance of knowing there is a fire early. It is one of the best types of smoke alarms to protect you from serious fires and gives you plenty of warning.

All smoke alarms installed by PEC are backed by a 10 year (lifetime) manufacturer warranty

Most fan models can be used to not only cool your home in summer but keep things warm in winter. The difference is simply down to the direction the blades move in. Using the correct mode can save you money on your electricity bills during different seasons.

Modern metal fan models are manufactured to withstand the elements. However, if they are overexposed to moisture or salt air then they can rust. If you are in a coastal location, then it is advisable to choose a stainless-steel blade fan between a 304 and 316 grade. ABS (plastic) ceiling fans are a great option for outdoor areas as the blades or housing will not deteriorate like other materials
